﷽ Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim (In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful).
Project Ilm: About & Mission:
We are creating the ultimate, comprehensive online repository of Islamic knowledge. Project Ilm aims to be the biggest and most accessible Islamic encyclopedia globally, covering history, theology, jurisprudence, culture, tasawwuf and more. This is a collaborative, community-driven effort, and we invite you to contribute your expertise to this noble goal.
At Project Ilm, our core mission is built upon a dual commitment: uncompromising authenticity and rigorous objectivity.
We strive to create an Islamic resource that is trustworthy, balanced, and free from sectarian or personal bias. While the pursuit of perfect neutrality is challenging, we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that all articles and content adhere to the highest standards of scholarship and fairness.
Authenticity (Qur'an and Sunnah):
The foundational source for all information on this Wiki is the Authentic Qur'an and Sunnah. We aim to ground all theological, legal, and historical discussions in the primary sources of Islam. Specifically:
Qur'an:
All interpretations and references must be supported by established, authoritative classical and contemporary tafsir (exegesis).
Sunnah (Prophetic Tradition):
We prioritize narrations that are rigorously authenticated (Sahih and Hasan) and clearly cited with references to reliable compilations (kutub al-sittah and other recognized works). Any discussions regarding differing views on the authenticity of a tradition must be presented fairly.
Objectivity and Neutrality (Unbiased Approach):
We recognize the vast diversity of thought within the Islamic tradition. Therefore, content on Project Ilm is developed with a Neutral Point of View (NPOV). This means:
Primary Framework (The Mainstream View):
While we are dedicated to presenting information unbiasedly and free from sectarianism, our editorial structure must adhere to a coherent and authoritative framework. Project Ilm adopts the theological and jurisprudential lens of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah (Sunni Islam). This approach reflects the established views and consensus of the vast majority of the global Muslim community and provides a grounded, accessible starting point for knowledge.
Goal: This framework is used to ensure the information is grounded in the most widely accepted and referenced scholarship, while still maintaining neutrality when discussing differing views.
Fair Representation:
Where established differences of opinion (ikhtilāf) exist among the major schools of jurisprudence (madhāhib) or theological traditions, these perspectives must be presented without preference or bias. Content from non-Sunni traditions will be represented fairly and accurately, as per our Attribution guidelines.
Attribution:
All claims, interpretations, and opinions must be attributed to their respective schools, scholars, or groups. The goal is to inform the reader about what different groups believe, not to advocate for one position over another.
Factual Basis:
We strictly separate factual, historical information from theological or legal interpretations, ensuring facts are well-sourced and verifiable.
By upholding this dedication to both authenticity and objectivity, we aim for Project Ilm to be a reliable and balanced encyclopedia for all who seek knowledge of Islam.
Notes
This wiki uses a comparative approach for Fiqh (all madhhab views on one page). Tasawwuf is presented as "Ihsan (Tasawwuf)" to align with the triad of Islam/Iman/Ihsan. All pages are placeholder stubs ready to be filled by editors.
